OverUnderSidewaysDown (Overunder.msn) Extended Briefing
by Rob Hight

Yes . . . Come right in, have a seat and let's go over this real quick. I understand
you were a Pro at the Pylons in days past? Good, you will need those skills and more
before the sun comes up.

AWACS has reported that the Enemy's night CAP is landing before their replacements
have had a chance to get airborne. This is a pattern that we've noticed for awhile now,
and the decision has been made to exploit it.

You must take off immediately from Runway 90, continue east until you reach the Maegsan
River, and then follow it north. Your target is the Power Plant at the Maegsan Dam.
Try not to take out the Dam, or we may get flooded down here at Dongducheon.

The code name for this mission is OverUnderSidewaysDown. Let me explain what that means.
OVER: even though you will be leaving from a land base, you will be flying over water for
almost the entire course. UNDER: the area you will be crossing is well covered by SAM's,
there will be no SEAD to announce the initiation of your mission, and so you will at times
need to maintain an altitude of under 200 feet if you expect to get by unscathed. There
is also a defensive choke point near the Singye Bridge, let's just say that if a pigeon
nesting under that bridge were to poop, it would fall 100 feet before hitting the water.
Keep that in mind. SIDEWAYS: It is known that the River is well patrolled by Enemy Gunboats,
your loadout is limited, you are cautioned to move to the side to avoid their fire, and
maintain a distance of least 1 nautical mile. DOWN: when you can't think of anything else
to do, keep your head down. Use the terrain, move to whichever side of the River you think
will cast the longest radar shadow between you and any threats you become aware off. As
senseless as this may sound, sometimes your best choice is stay down, and fly directly at
the threats that you perceive.

Now let's talk about Time, Speed and Fuel. The Enemy's southern CAP will be back up in the
air before long, maintain 100% Throttle, carve your turns gracefully to keep from scrubbing
off too much speed. Think on your feet, be nimble, and be quick. The Power Plant is a high
value target, you can expect the Enemy to scramble to its defense. It is known that the more
expensive SU27 fighter's are based at Maeng San, not far from the Dam. They have the ability
to chase you down if given the chance. Don't give them that chance, make your first strike count.

Due the danger of engaging fighters and SAMs at the same time, you are advised to continue
northeast to Waypoint 2. The Enterprize has slipped into the Sea of Japan overnight to the
east of Waypoint 2, it is there to pick you up, but cannot stay for long.
Your two Wingmen will be maintaining a CAP awaiting your arrival. Your mission is to take
out the Power Plant. Should your wingmen become involved with Enemy fighters in your defense,
the decision is yours as to whether to join in or not, check your fuel and weapons status.
I think I know what your decision will be.

And finally, fog is forcast for this morning. Line up at Waypoint 3 for an IFR approach to
the Carrier. Oh yes, maintain SA and try not to take out any friendlies, some of our own
Gunboats patrol the River south of the border.

Any questions? Good, let's go!
